Major Buildings in Buffalo, 1918
A number of impressive landmark buildings in downtown Buffalo in 1918 are nicely displayed here in a page from the Curtiss Flyleaf, the educational magazine published by the Curtiss Aeroplane & Motor Company, later Curtiss-Wright, from 1917-1945. Curtiss Aeroplane was the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, employing 18,000 workers in its Buffalo plant at the time. Happily, some of these structures surround us today, though several were replaced long ago, including the Hotel Iroquois, Shea’s Court Street Theatre, the old Public Library, and the Elmwood Music Hall.
